You Can’t Half-Step
In my early days of being a Christian I found it hard to stay on what I thought was the ‘right path’. Perhaps I had attention deficit disorder, but I seemed to lack that laser focus in walking with the Lord. Like a child attracted to the sparkly things or the sound of amusement, I would dart off to pursue my newest interest.
One day in my quiet time, the Lord gave me a rather stern, but loving word, and then He said this:
If you will give Me first place in your heart. Set your affection on Me, and seek My face, I will give you the desires of your heart.
I want your undivided devotion. I have said in My word, “ trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path. Honor the Lord with the first fruits of all your increase and So shall your storage places be filled with plenty, and your vats shall be overflowing with new wine. Prov 3:5-6,9-10
Give Me your total devotion, don’t slip back into old habits like slipping into a secret clandestine affair, sneaking off to be with a lover. Give Me all of you and I will truly give you your heart’s desire.
As I turned toward the Lord to bring myself to that place of devotion, I soon discovered that the desires of my heart were toward Him and He was pleased to satisfy my desire. He alone causes me to blossom.
